Casey at the Bat

Wear your baseball togs—it’s time for spring training! We’ll even serve popcorn! The Mudville Nine are losing by two runs with two outs in the ninth as The Mighty Casey comes to bat. Schuman’s cantata is based on the classic poem, Casey at the Bat by Ernest Thayer. OSM also presents Brooklyn Baseball Cantata by George Kleinsinger, an imagined account of the 1940s Dodgers winning the World Series against the cross-town rival Yankees, and In the Country of Baseball by local composer David Evan Thomas.

Choral director Jeffrey Stern will present a talk about Casey at the Bat beginning 30 minutes before each concert.
